Ein Metropolitan Borough (englisch für städtischer Bezirk oder Metropolbezirk) ist eine Verwaltungseinheit in England, die einen Gemeindebezirk innerhalb eines Metropolitan County darstellt.
1974 wurde in England ein zweistufiges Verwaltungssystem, bestehend aus Countys (Grafschaften) und Districts eingeführt. Sechs Ballungsgebiete wurden dabei zu Metropolitan Counties, die in Metropolitan Districts unterteilt waren. Diese Distrikte erhielten die Möglichkeit, bei der Königin den Status eines Borough zu beantragen. Dies taten alle Distrikte und wurden so zu Metropolitan Boroughs. Im Gegensatz zu den Non-Metropolitan-Districts gehört zu den Kompetenzen der Metropolitan Boroughs auch die Schulaufsicht.
1986 wurden die Räte der Metropolitan Counties abgeschafft und ihre Aufgaben wurden größtenteils auf die Metropolitan Boroughs übertragen, die damit faktisch den eher ländlichen Unitary Authorities gleichgestellt wurden.
Einige Metropolitan Boroughs besitzen auch den Status einer City.
Als Metropolitan Boroughs wurden von 1899 bis 1965 auch die damaligen Londoner Stadtbezirke bezeichnet. Nach der Bildung von Greater London wurden diese durch die London Boroughs ersetzt.
